OnePlus to Combine Codebases of OxygenOS and ColorOS

Winding back a few weeks, OnePlus had spread the word about strengthening its partnership with Oppo to have more resources and create better products, now the consumer electronics manufacturer is in an effort to merge the codebases of OxygenOs and ColorOS.
The consumer electronics manufacturer explained that consumers will now be able to benefit from faster and more stable software upgrades as a result of the greater connection.
In a blog post Gary C, OxygenOS Product Lead wrote, “we've come up with a strong plan to optimally utilize our joint resources with OPPO after a lot of evaluation and debate. We're combining the codebases of OxygenOS and ColorOS to improve efficiency and unify the software experience across our portfolio. This is a change that you are unlikely to notice since it is taking place behind the scenes”.
“We now have a larger and even more capable team of developers, more advanced R&D resources, and a more streamlined development process all coming together to better the OxygenOS experience”, wrote the OxygenOS Product Lead.
Gary stated that OxygenOS will continue to be the operating system for all OnePlus devices, rather than ColorOS, which is used by Oppo. In the future, new devices will ship with operating systems that are developed on a more solid and robust basis. OnePlus also announced an improved software maintenance schedule for the lifecycle of our open market smartphones, along with the combination of ColorOS and OxygenOS.
“As for the OnePlus brand, we will continue to operate autonomously, focusing on delivering you with the finest products and experiences possible, as we have always done. We'll keep announcing OnePlus products, conducting events (hopefully in person soon), and directly connecting with you for feedback using the same OnePlus channels we've always used. “OnePlus' commitment to you remains unchanged”, Lau stated
According to OnePlus, the change would allow the company to provide greater Android update support in the future.
OnePlus8, which was embraced as the company’s flagship product last year, would receive three major Android updates and four years of security patches, according to OnePlus. This would apply to both older and newer devices.
The electronics consumer manufacturer stated that mid-range devices such as the Nord and the Nord CE will receive two major Android releases and three years of security fixes. The Nord N10 and N100, on the other hand, will receive one major Android update and three years of security patches.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau previously stated that OnePlus will continue to function independently despite a closer merger with Oppo”.
