OpenAI Group PBC announced that it has purchased Torch Health Inc., a healthcare tech startup dedicated to integrating personal medical information, as the AI firm aims to broaden its initiatives in health-related applications.

The cost of the acquisition was not publicly revealed, and different reports suggest varying amounts were paid. The Information asserts that the purchase was “around $100 million,” whereas CNBC estimates the cost at “approximately $60 million.”

Established in 2024, Torch provides an AI-driven health application aimed at consolidating dispersed medical data from various sources, such as healthcare professionals, diagnostic laboratories, and individual health information.

Torch integrates medical information like lab results, prescriptions, diagnoses, and treatment histories into one unified view to minimize record fragmentation that may cause patients and clinicians to rely on incomplete or outdated data.

The app can capture and organize unstructured health data that is frequently overlooked or underused, including recordings or summaries of medical visits, care directives, and contextual notes, ensuring this information is preserved alongside clinical records to support continuity across appointments and healthcare providers.
