Sigma Advanced Systems Lands Rs.208 Crore Export Deal

Sigma Advanced Systems has obtained an export contract valued at Rs.208 crore ($21.97 million) to produce and deliver 40,000 units of 155 mm M107 artillery shell casings to a client in North America, enhancing India's expanding role in the global defense manufacturing supply chain, as stated by the company in a BSE filing.

The execution of the order will take six months, with production and deliveries planned to be finished within that period.

The agreement signifies a notable increase in Sigma's capabilities within the defense sector. Recognized mainly for its fuze production, the company will now create entire artillery shell parts, expanding its footprint in the international munitions market.

The project entails producing 155 mm artillery shell casings, which are the main structural element of artillery ammunition. Manufacturing demands high-level metallurgical knowledge, accurate machining, thermal processing, and rigorous quality assurance procedures. The company announced it received the necessary export authorization from the Department of Defence Production within the Ministry of Defence.

The 155 mm caliber is commonly utilized among NATO and allied artillery systems and continues to be the international standard for contemporary artillery. The need for artillery ammunition has increased significantly in recent years due to geopolitical conflicts and heightened military modernization efforts globally, presenting opportunities for defense manufacturers able to provide essential components in large quantities.

Sunil Kalidindi, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Sigma Advanced Systems, remarked that the contract demonstrated the trust that international clients have in India's defense manufacturing framework.

"This order enhances our stance in the global defence supply chain and showcases our capability to assist international clients with top-tier manufacturing skills from India," he stated.

The firm stated that the collaboration enhances its qualifications as a global manufacturing ally for the defence sector and may lead to future prospects in ammunition production and associated defence initiatives.

India has been aiming to enhance defence exports as part of its wider effort to cultivate a domestic defence manufacturing framework and lessen dependence on imports.
