Sunsure Energy has signed an agreement with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam for a 500 MWh peak power supply from a battery energy storage system to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation.

Sunsure Energy, a provider of renewable energy solutions for businesses and utilities moving to green power, is pleased to reveal the signing of a Battery Energy Discharge Purchase Agreement (BEDPA) with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVN), an entirely owned subsidiary of NTPC Ltd, ensuring a capacity of 125MW/500MWh, according to a company statement.

Supported by a 15-year contract, Sunsure will provide electricity to NVVN, with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) as the final buyer.

As per the agreement, Sunsure will establish an independent Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) using the build–own–operate model at the Garautha substation (400/220 kV) located in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.

The project represents Sunsure's inaugural long-term energy supply contract via BESS.

Under the agreement, Sunsure will provide 4 hours of on-demand electricity from 6 pm to 10 am, allowing UPPCL to obtain clean energy during peak demand periods (evening or morning) at competitive and long-term rates.

This marks a significant change in India's energy storage landscape, as it is the inaugural BESS agreement that, rather than using fixed monthly charges, bases billing on a fixed tariff (Rs/kWh) for the energy discharged.
