The Economic Survey Cites ISRO's Role in Infra Development

The Economic Survey called for significant public-private partnerships in the areas of project planning, financing, construction, maintenance, monetization, and impact assessment. It also emphasized the role of the Indian Space Research Organization's cutting-edge geospatial platforms in infrastructure monitoring and management.
ISRO initiatives support a range of projects, from rural development and electrical infrastructure to judicial and urban planning, enhancing efficiency and tracking progress.
The space agency’s Bhuvan Platform supports infrastructure monitoring under schemes like MGNREGA and the watershed component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) at different stages of implementation.
When it comes to the judiciary, the NyayaVikas Portal monitors 2,840 judicial projects using Web GIS and mobile geotagging, with over 7,900 geotags created to track its progress.
Former ISRO chairman AS Kiran Kumar says, “The recent geospatial approach taken by the government is enabling data accessibility for people working in analytics. Through them, this data can be taken to different user departments at both the central and state government levels, making efficient implementation possible. Finding the right analytical tools will be critical for data.”
According to India Geospatial Market Outlook 2024, published in Geospatial World, India's geospatial market is forecast to grow at a compound annual rate of 16.5 percent to reach Rs 25,000 crore by 2025.
Kiran further emphasized how India's latest GSAT-20 satellite launch from Space X has significantly increased broadband capacity and facilitated access in far-flung locations.
On budget expectations for the sector, Kiran says: “Both public and private sectors need more resources to deliver what is expected. The progress of activities will depend on how much funding is allocated.”
