Application Program Interfaces (API) platform Postman raises $ 225 million in a Series D funding round leaving it to weigh at $ 5.6 billion, as well as marking this seven-year-old startup as the most valued Saas (Software-as-a-service) company in India.

By this, the startup surpassed BrowserStack which was valued at $ 4 billion this June.

Postman's platform is critical for developers, but the company only recently expanded to establish a public marketplace where developers and businesses can access ready-to-use APIs.

The startup, which employs over 425 people, intends to use the new funds to hire more people in sales, marketing, product development, and engineering.

Postman is said to also invest heavily in expanding its product plan. Its platform spreads forth to meet the demands of technical users while also meeting the needs of commercial users. At a high level, investments are believed to be poured into workflow support for all types of APIs, whether private APIs, partner APIs, or public APIs.

The firm believes that the rise of APIs will bring in a new breed of no-code and citizen developers. It intends to welcome a world brimming with innovation for people from all walks of life and with diverse levels of technical expertise.

The startup, on the other hand, is introducing Flow Runner, a no-code API composition tool that allows anyone to create API-driven programs. It also intends to invest in API literacy initiatives for students and contribute to open source projects.

Furthermore, individuals in sales, marketing, and finance are becoming more familiar with APIs and become supporters of this technology, according to the platform.

A new version of the Postman API is on the way, as is support for protocols like gRPC and ProtoBuf, as well as expanded GraphQL capabilities. It's also putting a lot of effort towards integrating with other software development lifecycle vendors like AWS and Git hosting providers like GitHub and GitLab.

It’s observed that APIs have swiftly become the essential building blocks of software used by developers in every industry, in every country around the world, with Postman solidifying its position as the preferred platform for developers.

The startup was crafted from the hands of BITS Pilani graduates Abhinav Asthana and Abhijit Kane along with NSIT Delhi’s Ankit Sobti. Initially, Postman weighed about $ 2 billion a year ago from raising $ 150 million in a funding round led by Insight Partners and others. Then the startup procured a total sum of $ 208 million.

The Postman Public API Network has been proven to connect millions of developers around the world and provide a platform for them to find, explore, and share APIs. The construction of public workplaces, which allow users to connect across enterprises, is believed to be the sole motivating factor.

Microsoft, Salesforce, Stripe, Shopify, Cisco, and PayPal are among the 500,000 firms that employ the startup's software today.

The startup, on the other hand, is introducing Flow Runner, a no-code API composition tool that allows anyone to create API-driven programs. It also intends to invest in API literacy initiatives for students and contribute to open source projects.

The round was led by existing investor Insight Partners including new investor Coatue, storied Silicon Valley investor Mary Meeker’s Bond Capital, as well as Battery Ventures, joining the round.
