The Nationwide Accreditation Board for Certifying Our bodies (NABCB) has given its stamp of approval for certification of electrical equipment in accordance with ISO/IEC 17065, for the Central Energy Analysis Institute (CPRI) an autonomous Society under the Union Ministry of Energy.

As Indian manufactured electrical products are exported to countries across the globe, exporters had raised an issue with the Power Ministry regarding some countries not accepting the test report by CPRI due to lack of ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation.

The purpose of the ISO/IEC 17065 is for conformity assessment or the certification of products, processes and or services.

Now that the Power Ministry urged CPRI to obtain the accreditation, this gives power to the producers who possess check certificates from CPRI export merchandise without having to retest or authenticate by some other body outside the country.

This is expected to encourage more manufacturing, as well as, exports of more electrical equipment from India

This is believed to enhance the existing robust indegenious development and manufacturing of electrical products in India, while strengthening the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative as well.

Under the certification Transformers & Reactors, Cables and cable accessories, Capacitors, Switchgear & Control gear, Transmission line accessories and Energy meters, are covered for CPRI’s Test Reports.

Additionally, the certification means that Indian exporters need not have to send their products abroad for testing. This is expected to encourage more manufacturing, as well as, exports of more electrical equipment from India.

The test report issued by the CPRI Test Laboratory is expected to be authenticated by an independent Certifying Division under the CPRI, which would issue the Test Certificate.

The ISO/IEC 17065 Accreditation showcases that the agencies have met the requirements for operating certification schemes in a competent, consistent and impartial manner to the market and regulators around the world.

As a result, the export footprint for electrical equipment manufactured in India is set to rise with a vital bottleneck being addressed.
