To make bus travels flexible, the Delhi government has teamed up with Google to establish a system that will allow commuters to follow bus locations, arrival and departure timings, and routes on their smartphones in real time.

On the occasion, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot stated that the status of 3,000 buses can be tracked in real time.

"Around 3,000 bus statuses are now live, allowing passengers to track buses using Google Maps, and more DTC buses will be added soon," Gahlot said.

"Google has teamed up with the Delhi Transport Ministry to offer real-time bus information, including an estimate of how long their trip will take and whether their bus is delayed," he said.

The minister expressed the hope that this partnership will motivate several additional transit apps to use the Transport Department's open data portal to develop creative solutions that will make Delhi's public transportation system the default mode of transportation for everyone

"With this partnership with Google Maps, Delhi joins a select group of worldwide cities that seamlessly deliver real-time public transportation information, allowing commuters to plan their journeys down to the minute," he added.

Earlier this year, Google Cloud and Ericsson announced a collaboration to create 5G and edge cloud technologies to assist communications service providers (CSPs) in digital transformation and unleash new enterprise and consumer use cases.

Communication service providers, retailers, manufacturers, transportation companies, healthcare providers, and media/entertainment providers all under demands to construct more digitized enterprises and innovative digital experiences for their customers on a global scale.

This collaboration to create innovative solutions at Ericsson's Silicon Valley D-15 Labs, a state-of-the-art innovation facility where advanced solutions and technologies can be developed and tested on a live, multi-layers 5G platform.

Coming to the buses, the minister expressed the hope that this partnership will motivate several additional transit apps to use the Transport Department's open data portal to develop creative solutions that will make Delhi's public transportation system the default mode of transportation for everyone.

Ericsson and Google Cloud have already completed the functional onboarding of Ericsson 5G on Anthos, allowing CSPs and enterprises to run telco edge and on-premise use cases.

By delivering connection close to firms' actual sites, the collaborative offers will help enterprises in the automotive, transportation, manufacturing, and other industries enhance efficiencies and minimise latency.

Ericsson and Google previously announced a services partnership to deliver cloud-native, container-based solutions to support the digital transformation of operator networks and application migration.
