By March this year, Delhi government is driving in 100 electric buses in hopes to clear away the pollution from the air. In fact, it already drove its first electric bus in January.

Reports from Hindustan Times, Livemint's sister publication, have said that by mid- May 200 more e-buses would take up the electric bus fleet to 300.

By the end of the year, another 330 e-buses will be added to the 300 buses to which a tender is already being set for preparation.

JBM Auto Limited, Delhi's first electric bus, was revealed on January 17th. In October of last year, the Delhi transport department issued tenders for the induction of 140 low-floor, air-conditioned electric buses.

All existing bus depots are being renovated with EV charging infrastructure in order to boost the share of zero-emission vehicles in public transportation to over 50 percent.

According to the Delhi government, these new low-floor CNG AC buses are fully compatible with BS-VI emission requirements and are equipped with cutting-edge features like a real-time passenger information system, CCTVs, panic buttons, and GPS, among others

With the addition of these buses, the total number of cluster buses in the national capital has increased to 3,383 and the entire bus fleet has increased to 7,140.

The state government has run 3,033 non-AC and AC buses as part of the cluster scheme.

The Cabinet also said that 300 electric buses will be added to the DTC fleet by the beginning of 2022, a goal that has yet to be met.

Karnataka debuted its first electric bus for public transit in December of last year. In Ahmedabad and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, JBM provided 90 and 15 electric buses, respectively, last year.

During the inauguration of 100 new AC CNG buses at Rajghat, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said, “The first prototype of the electric bus has already reached Delhi and will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday (January 17). Fifty e-buses will be inducted into DTC`s fleet by the second week of February and the target to admit 300 e-buses is likely to be achieved till April."

According to the Delhi government, these new low-floor CNG AC buses are fully compatible with BS-VI emission requirements and are equipped with cutting-edge features like a real-time passenger information system, CCTVs, panic buttons, and GPS, among others.
