Google's CEO, PM Narendra Modi Plan Participation in Indian Electronics Manufacturing Ecosystem
Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet and Google, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi through a virtual conversation informing the company's plans to participate in the Indian electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
HP and Google teamed up in September of this year to start producing Chromebooks at the Flex factory in Chennai, India.
In this plant, HP has been producing laptops and desktop computers for the past three years.
With effect from October 2, HP and Google will jointly produce Chromebooks in India. According to reports, the Chromebook models will be produced at the Flex Facility close to Chennai, where HP has been making a variety of laptops and desktops since August 2020.
Under the government's Rs 17,000 crore production-linked incentive program for IT hardware, HP is one of the candidates.
Pichai also shared with PM Modi Google's ambitions to increase financial inclusion in India by utilizing the power and reach of the universal payments interface (UPI) and the business' UPI-based payment tool GPay during their conversation on Monday.
Modi also praised Google's collaboration with leading laptop and PC manufacturer HP to produce Chromebooks locally.
He also praised efforts to make artificial intelligence (AI) tools accessible in regional Indian languages as well as Google's 100-language project. Additionally, he urged Google to develop ‘Good Governance’ AI technologies.
The action will increase HP's selection of India-made PCs. Since 2020, HP has been growing its manufacturing facilities in India. In December 2021, HP began producing a variety of laptops there, including HP EliteBooks, HP ProBooks, and HP G8 series notebooks.

The Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, will serve as the site of Google's new global fintech operations center, which the PM applauded.
