The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) marked a significant milestone in the development of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor by initiating trial runs between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan Stations.

According to NCRTC, a Namo Bharat train was moved from New Ashok Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan at minimal speed along the downline to test the compatibility of the signalling system.

The manually operated trial run was designed to guarantee the smooth integration of subsystems like the tracks, platform screen doors (PSDs), and the overhead power supply system.

During the test run, the Namo Bharat train traversed the Yamuna River for the initial time, moving across the Barapullah flyover and Ring Road before arriving at Sarai Kale Khan Station.

This trial marked a significant milestone, demonstrating the successful finishing of the 1.3-kilometre-long bridge spanning the Yamuna River. The bridge, held up by 32 pillars, extended approximately 626 meters straight across the river, while the rest of it traversed the floodplain.

The building of the bridge across the Yamuna River presented considerable difficulties, yet NCRTC successfully tackled them.

The bridge runs adjacent to the DND Yamuna Bridge and links the 4.5-kilometre segment between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan Stations.

Sarai Kale Khan Station, poised to become the launch site of the whole corridor, progressed steadily toward becoming operational.

The existing operational section spanned 55 kilometres from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South, incorporating 11 stations

The project on the station’s exterior, comprising the roof framework, advanced rapidly, and twelve escalators and four elevators were set up to ease passenger flow between the concourse and platform levels.

By the time the trial runs occurred, the 82-kilometre Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor was set to become entirely operational by year’s end.

The existing operational section spanned 55 kilometres from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South, incorporating 11 stations.
