Amazon, the e-commerce behemoth, has increased its export ambition from India to $ 20 billion by 2025.

On a visit to India in 2020, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos stated that the e-tailer wanted to export roughly $10 billion worth of items by 2025, although the business stated that it was already on track to achieve $5 billion in exports soon.

The e-commerce giant said in its Exports Digest 2022 program that cumulative exports by Indian exporters on the Amazon Global Selling program are on course to surpass the $5 billion mark.

Word on the street is that the first billion dollars were made possible in three years, while the last two billion dollars were made possible in just 17 months.

Since its inception in 2015, the program has seen widespread participation by businesses of all sizes across the country, with more than one lakh exporters.

“We are seeing a rapid increase in the number of exporters joining Amazon Global Selling to cater to the growing demand for Made in India products across the world”, claims Agarwal

Through Amazon's 18 international websites in countries like the US, UK, United Arab Emirates, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Netherlands, Turkey, Brazil, Japan, and Australia, these exporters are showcasing millions of 'Made in India' products to customers all over the world.

Amazon has raised its export goal, enabling $ 20 billion in cumulative exports from India by 2025, after being encouraged by the program's quick growth.

In his words, Amit Agarwal, SVP India and Emerging Markets, Amazon, “We are excited by the remarkable growth that over 1 lakh exporters are witnessing through our Global Selling program. In 2020, Amazon had pledged to enable $10 billion in cumulative exports from India by 2025 using this program. But as Indian MSMEs discover how ecommerce makes it easy for them to reach customers globally, we are seeing a rapid increase in the number of exporters joining Amazon Global Selling to cater to the growing demand for Made in India products across the world. We are therefore scaling up our pledge to boost exports from India using ecommerce to $20 billion by 2025. We will continue to work with all key stakeholders to make exports easier for Indian MSMEs”.

Three years after the initiative began in 2015, Amazon India achieved $1 billion in exports. Since then, it has surpassed $3 billion in total exports.

“We are seeing a rapid increase in the number of exporters joining Amazon Global Selling to cater to the growing demand for Made in India products across the world”, claims Agarwal.
