In an attempt to make more powerful computers use homegrown processors, Apple Inc., is testing several of its new Mac models with next-generation M2 chips.

The M2 chip is the tech giant’s latest move after splitting from Intel Corp., and has gradually replaced the latter’s chips with its own silicon. It aims to push the boundaries with computer processing and looks forward to making further gains with a more advanced line.

It is said to be testing at least nine new Macs with four different M2-based chips, considered as the successor to its predecessor M1 line, including third party apps in its app store. The move is a new step in the development process, implying their release in the coming months.

The company is testing J413, a MacBook Air with an M2 processor, J473: a Mac mini with an M2 chip, J493: an entry-level MacBook Pro with an M2 chip. J414: a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max processors, J416: a 16-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max processors, J180: a Mac Pro, including a successor to the M1 Ultra chip seen in the Mac Studio computer will be included in this system.

This year’s early launches are expected to be taken off by the new MacBook Air, low-end MacBook Pro and new Mac mini, with two Macs planned for launch in the middle of the year

Additionally, Apple is testing a Mac mini using the M1 Pro chip, the same processor that was used in the entry level 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros today. The Mac mini has also been tested with an M1 Max version as well, but the new Mac studio is believed to make these machines redundant.

Although Apple has not updated its MacBook Air, Mac mini or the entry-level MacBook Pro after launching the original M1 chip in 2020. However, last year witnessed a sale of both 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.

The Mac computer division has experienced a revival in the last two years, aided in part by home office workers purchasing new equipment. The company made $ 35.2 billion in sales last fiscal year, accounting for nearly 10 percent of Apple's total.

This year’s early launches are expected to be taken off by the new MacBook Air, low-end MacBook Pro and new Mac mini, with two Macs planned for launch in the middle of the year. With the new MacBook Air considered to be the product’s biggest redesign in its history, added with a thinner frame and MagSafe charging.

Despite the fact that testing has progressed in certain situations, it is said that there is no guarantee that all models will be released in the end.
