Google’s search result will now act as an educational tool to inculcate media literacy among online users to increase the capabilities of its 'About this Result', which came out this year. On that accord, the tech giant plans on adding information about the source pertaining to Wikipedia’s version and original site’s about information, news, reviews and others to help users to better evaluate unfamiliar or new sources.

While it does that, the tech giant will further guide users to other information around the same topic and this helps to accumulate results that could match the user’s original query.

Talking about its ‘About this Result’ feature which originally shows up with a short description from Wikipedia, will be updated with more information. This extra information will be about what a site says about itself in its own words since this information will be made to directly pop up when available.

Additionally, Google also plans on displaying the website’s original date of when it was first launched, since it appears that a lot of users seem to rely on websites that have been out there for a long time.

it could prevent people from isolating themselves inside a so-called ‘filter bubble’ which is a significant complication of the social media era in which people are not exactly exposed to other sources of information as their preferred social platforms learn their preferences and then feed them more of the same to boost engagement

People can look at what other people are saying about the site in question, whether it's through news publications, reviews, or reputable organizations. This could aid people in determining the website's online reputation, as evidenced by various sources.

This portion of 'others', according to the tech giant, will be based on Google Open Web Results, which identifies pages that may provide context about the website. In order to present impartial perspectives, the tech giant also attempts to highlight beneficial results that are not developed or controlled by the originating page.

Google will also introduce a 'About the Topic' feature that will direct online searchers to further information about their original inquiry, such as top news coverage or other search results on the same subject. This might be useful for folks who want to learn more about something they're interested in.

However, it could prevent people from isolating themselves inside a so-called ‘filter bubble’ which is a significant complication of the social media era in which people are not exactly exposed to other sources of information as their preferred social platforms learn their preferences and then feed them more of the same to boost engagement.

Danielle Romain, Google's VP of Trust, announced the updates while addressing at Google's Search On live event.
